Children's Festival

The First International Pafos Children's Festival that took place on the 5th of May 2012 was organised by the Cyprus-Russian Association of Pafos.

The event was supported by the International School of Paphos, the Russian Cultural Centre, the Municipality of Pafos and the  Pafos Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The festival,was attended, on a sunny Saturday morning by, more than 200 guests and it was an outstanding event in the cultural life of Pafos, bringing joy to and fun for children and parents alike.

The children’s art contest "Russia as seen through children’s eyes" became an important part of the Festival. Step by step, the Cyprus-Russian Association of Pafos implements its programme of activities striving to unite different nationalities living in Cyprus through getting to know their cultures, It is important for the Russian kids living abroad to feel part of a great nation, to grasp the wealth of its traditions and share it with friends. Since the beginning of March the organisers together with the local schools’ assistants started collecting the little masterpieces and finally turning them into a colourful display in the sports complex of the International School of Paphos, which hosted the festival.

At the opening ceremony the Festival’s guest of Honour Pafos Vice-Mayor Makis Roussis addressed the organisers, participants and guests and read out the official welcome from the Mayor Savvas Vergas. He emphasised the importance of such a children's festival and suggested to make it an annual event, promising full support from the Municipality of Pafos.

A Children’s Party wouldn’t be complete without singing and dancing, would it? Well, here we go – this event was full of artistic performances. Young artists  - kids of different nationalities – proved their talents and hard work by staging some amazing performances.

The first one to was a piece called “Orthodox Russia” by “Vera” Dance Studio. Then it was the turn of the impressive children’s choir “Camerton” directed by Anna Izmailova. Eygenia Karol’s Ballet School presented two wonderful pieces -  "Polka" by Rachmaninoff and Moldovan folk dance.

The young artists of theAngel Dreams Theatre received a storm of applause for their “Village Fun” song due to the bright Russian costumes and set which amazed the audience, not to mention the enthusiasm of the performers.

The programme included some serious pieces  too, such as the modern style dance «Mon Amour» performed by Vivian Mihaelidou and «This is my spot» by Christine Mihaelidou and Emily Shelly.

Alex Rudenko and Pandora Papahristodoulu (Paola Hadzhilambri Theatre School) performed a monologue from the play "The Bear" by Chekhov.

The final song of the programme "Solnechnyj Krug” was sang together by all the participants along with the audience.


After the concert the prizes were awarded to the winners of the art contest.

The festival was a success! The proof was the happy smiles of the guests leaving the hospitable walls of the International School of Paphos.
