Children's Festival '15

«The Hearts of Gold» of Paphos

It has been the fourth consecutive year that the annual International Children’s Festival became the event celebrating kids’ creativity and talents. On the 2 of May 2015 The International School of Paphos welcomed children and their parents from all over the island – Larnaca, Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos speaking quite a mixture of languages, including Russian, English, Greek and even Chinese. Truly international!

The event was organized by the Cyprus-Russian Association of Pafos, that has always tried to contribute to enriching the cultural life of Paphos, bring communities closer together and help the Russian speaking residents of the town adjust. This year the theme for the Festival became much needed kindness – it was decided to call the event “The Hearts of Gold”, and this was the subject for the children’s compositions, art masterpieces and the gala concert performances. Kindness is the way to save the world, don’t you think?

The audience was addressed by the President of the CyRuAP Mrs. Anastasia Yianni, the director of the Russian Orthodox Educational Centre in Larnaca Mrs. Natalia Zykova, the Principal of the International School of Paphos Mrs. Aristi Andriotis and the Mayor of Paphos Mr. Fedonos Fedonas. But the true stars of the event were the children! There were the regular participants that support the Festival since its first year, such as the Russian Ballet School of Evgenia Karol, The Cyprus-Russian Association’s children’s choir Camerton directed by Anna Izmailova, The dancing studio
“Vera”, the Ballroom Dance School “Maria”, the Children’s Creativity Centre “Five Kingdoms”, the Dance Ensemble “Romiosini” and lots of new talents – the Children’s choir of the Municipality of Paphos and the guests from Limassol - Children’s vocal studio “Erimi Chicks”, dancing Studio “Vera-Limassol”, Choir Studio of the “Koleso” Family Centre and the Children’s music and vocal department of the St. Luke’s Russian. It just goes to show that the festival gains recognition across the island and expands geographically and language wise and the professionalism of its participants keeps growing along with the number of people attending.

Apart from the Gala Concert, the visitors had a chance to view the art works participating in the art contest “Share kindness” (including drawings and paintings, icons and mosaics, Barbie outfits and sculptures and even a huge robot), take part in the Association’s free draw and charity fund raising. The charity money collecation raised more than 200 euros towards the Solidarity Paphos fund and St. Michael’s Hospice which prove the right choice of theme for the festival.

The Cyprus-Russian Association of Pafos would like to cordially thank all participants and guests of the Festival, all its sponsors and media sponsors, and all those who helped along the way. A special thanks goes to Anna Izmailova and Dmitry Erokhin that made it all happen!
