International Children’s Festival 2014. This year the theme was ‘Magic’. The choice was not accidental – unlike us, children still believe in it, and there is nothing impossible if you only believe. Kids have an incredible imagination and their unique creations proved just that.
Compositions, written for the literature contest “If I was a wizard” really made us pause and think. Most of the kids don’t want a new mobile or a bike but would rather use their magic powers or a magic wand to stop wars, cure cancer, find parents for all the orphans… That is really touching, isn’t it?
And you should really have seen their creations for the art contest “Magic world”. It is unbelievable just how talented our kids are, all they need is the freedom to express themselves. There was an exhibition of the works sent by many Paphos, Limassol, and Nicosia art schools. The children used many art forms to express their creativity: paintings, drawings, compositions, sculptures, and much more.
The professional jury of the International Children’s Festival selected just a few of them to be awarded special prizes but we think that absolutely each and every one of these works of art is creative, beautiful, and special. The Mayor of Paphos Savvas Vergas, who honored the festival with his presence, was so impressed with the children’s works that he suggested organizing an exhibition at the Paphos harbor gallery. Last but not least, a photo exhibition“The magic world of nature” should be mentioned, as the photos were taken by children were unbelievably good. They definitely have an eye for beauty!
International Children’s Festival’s guests
After short welcome speeches by the Mayor of Paphos, Savvas Vergas, and the President of the Cyprus-Russian Association of Pafos, Anastasia Yianni the stage was given to the children. The first in International Children’s Festival to impress the audience with their excellent performance was the Association’s choir “Camerton”, directed by Anna Izmailova. Then on came amazing dancers and singers of an incredibly professional level from various schools and studios of Paphos and Limassol.
The grand finale of the concert at the International Children’s Festival was the song “Wizards” performed by all the young participants of the show together.
All the winners of the contests in different categories got theatre and cinema tickets as award prizes. There were bottles of water and fresh apples to refresh the guests. But the greatest gift of all was the fact that everyone enjoyed was fun, happiness, the celebration of creativity, inspiration, and friendship!
