Visiting natural attractions is always something special. As soon as one delves into a small forest, the air around becomes cleaner, louder, the birds sing louder, and the traveler is enveloped in an aura of calm and quiet delight. This is exactly the place that Hantara (Kantara) is and the path to it.
Hantara in Greek means “noise of water”: indeed, many tourists note the noise of this waterfall. But it is not annoying, but vice versa: pacifying and pleasant to hearing.
The waterfall has three “steps”, the highest reaches 8 meters. It only seems that this is not very high – in fact, the water fall is very picturesque. A distinctive feature of Hantara from other waterfalls is the separation of water into several strong jets. This makes him the most picturesque among the “brothers.”
The lower step of the falls falls into a small lake, which smoothly becomes a continuation of the river. It is strange that in Cyprus this miracle of nature is not considered a priority to visit – perhaps due to some inaccessibility.
Indeed, not all tourists are ready to put on sports shoes and go to a place where there is no asphalt road. In addition, you must first get into the area of the village of Fini, and then on foot or by car to overcome a short distance of one kilometer. Around will be stones and trees, silence and tranquility. Perhaps they come here for this.
The secret of Hantara Falls
Travelers who are not too lazy to visit the waterfall will discover another little-known landmark of Cyprus, but of a man-made character. This is the face of the Savior, carved in a rock at a height of five meters. How did he end up there?
An artist from the village of Fini decided to add a “twist” that will delight tourists on the way to the waterfall. He installed a metal structure that made it possible to climb onto a ledge of a cliff and work on creating a face. Later, the design was removed.
Now everyone passing by notices the image carved into the rock and wonders – indeed, to see in nature a work of art created by man is at least unusual.
Three steps of the waterfall
First, tourists get to the lowest “step” of Hantara, and then they can see two more. To do this, you need to climb up the stairs carved in black rock. It will not take much effort, but further and further a magnificent view will open. Turning back and down, the traveler will see a waterfall and a river. From the front, two upper “steps” will appear alternately in front, almost hardly inferior in beauty to the lower slope.
Attention is drawn to the vegetation: giant plane trees and golden oaks. Some trees are of considerable age, and their bizarre shape makes them stop and look at the giants closer.
The whole journey will take only 30-40 minutes, or even less, but impressions will last for many years to come.
How to get to Cyprus Hantara
To get to this miracle of nature, guests of Cyprus must pass the village of Fini. To do this, you need to leave from Limassol (also from Paphos) to Trimiklini, then turn to Pera Pedi and follow Mandria to Fini. Do not miss the pointer, so as not to go further.
From the village you can go on foot or travel by car along a dirt road. By the way, along the way you will meet a source from which clear mountain water pours – a rarity for Cyprus, be sure to try it!
