Cypriot legislation in accordance with the directive of the European Union entitles students who are citizens of third countries to work in Cyprus. This permit is valid under certain conditions and for certain types of employment. University students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week in certain sectors of economic activity. In order to have the right to work, it is necessary to study in the full-time department of one of the accredited universities of the island. You can get a job only after the first semester of study. Working students should be treated the same way as ordinary employees, all the requirements of labor legislation must be met. The Ministry of Labor has prepared a standard employment contract, which must be concluded in this case. The standard text of the contract can be obtained in the regional offices of the Labor Exchange (Labor Office). Professions and economic activities in which students can be employed are as follows: – work at gas stations and car washes; – work in nursing homes; – work in agricultural production, fishing and in bakeries; – work as a courier in fast-food establishments. The main documents required for those who want to work and for their employers are the following: – a valid residence permit (with an expiration date of at least six months from the date of employment troystva); – the labor contract signed by both parties – the training schedule, which should be different from the operating vremenem.Studenty must sign an employment contract with the employer and submit it to the Labour Office department for approval. They check its basic conditions and approve the document. The law provides for a penalty of fine or imprisonment for those who violate the provisions of the contract.
